Twenty Twenty-Six

  As I write this in early January I expect 2026 to include visits to many of the same locations as 2024 and 2025. Each visit is unique and I continue look forward to each and every one. Having said that, many of the potential photos would be repeats. I don't know yet how my enthusiasm for recording  will wax and wane. Time will tell, but if you are interested in a more complete story about my common voyages, then please look at Twenty Twenty Four.

  Most images will give a higher resolution version when clicked. I have split the year into quarters as the pages were too big, so here are links to various chapters of the year:

  March April May June July August September October November December

  I have tried to optimize image loading but some pages may still be slow to load. Sorry.

  January and February - Christchurch and aboard Heritage Adventurer

  January 9 - Christchurch. I had more pleasant times around the Villa to start the year before flying south to start the Ross Sea portion of my guiding year.

  Some scenes from this period: Another black swan event with bigger cygnets, more from the ever-expanding Fairy Village

  Both Ross Sea voyages enjoyed exceptionally good conditions, with many landings, Zodiac cruises, and historic hut visits. It was, as always,  a busy time for me, but, as always, hugely enjoyable. I took only a few photos, which I have arranged here geographically from north to south.

  Some scenes from the voyages: Snares Islands: Snares Crested penguins x 2, a silly seal climbed to the top of the penguin slide and slid - credit Neale Frazer; Campbell Island: Megaherbs, Southern Royal in flight; Macquarie Island: King penguins at Lusitania Bay including underwater - credit Paige Maroni; Cape Adare: panorama, Adelie cloony x 2; Tabular iceberg detail; Cape Hallett: skuas, beach landscape monochrome, Adelie colony overview, Adelie on ice; Coulman Island ice landing: ship in fast ice, me pulling the ship; Terra Nova Bay: Leopard seal; McMurdo Sound: Emperor penguin group;

  March - Arrival home and Christchurch

  March 6 - Christchurch - The Ross Sea voyages were very special indeed - ending with a nice sunset to welcome us home.

  The rest of March was spent working through my ToDo list, connecting with Jill, and preparing for Japan.

  Scenes from this period: Evening walks: The Black Swan family had matured and attracted Canadian Geese, elvers had appeared, meaning eels (~5 ft long), not frightened of the swans, and a new set of cygnets around the corner
